Weekend Vs Pride
Weekend is a film directed Andrew Heigh. The genre is Drama and romance. It is a drama because it heavily relies on realistic character and story development and it’s a romance because the plot revolves around the love between the two protagonists. The themes of the film are sexuality, acceptance, relationships and friendship. It involves sexuality and acceptance because The protagonist, Russel, wants to come out as gay publicly but he is scared of what people would think of him. Relationship and friendship are involved throughout the film between the two protagonists. The film is about after a drunken night with his straight friends, Russel heads out to a gay bar and picks up Glen and what is expected to be a one night stand turns in to a something else. something special. Pride is a film directed by Matthew Warchus. He also directed Sampatico. The genre of film is comedy and period drama. It is a comedy because it uses humour as a driving force to develop the characters and story. It is a period drama because it uses realistic development in story and characters and it is set in the past in the 1980's. The themes of the film is acceptance, fighting back, cooperation and philanthropy. It involves acceptance because through out the film the protagonist group want to be accepted by the public and that is why they have so many marches and parades. Fighting back is a theme because right from the beginning. One of the protagonists Mark has a banner across his window saying  "Thatcher out". They are constantly fighting against the stereotypes they are given.  Cooperation is involved when the gays join the miners in their fight for the strike and philanthropy is a theme because the protagonists donate and help the miners out. the film is about a group of gay activists join the fight with the miners during their lengthy strike in the summer of 1984.
The film Pride seemed to feel much more like a documentary and felt much more third person then the weekend. This I believe is because that is a period drama and the director wanted to show the story of this group gay activists in the 1980s. I believe this is also due to the fact that the film pride had a lot more settings, locations. It was set in London. In joes house, gethins house, the small welsh town. Pride also had a lot of characters and viewed each on of them equally. Weekend felt as though it was much more first person. It viewed the characters as though we were with them. It had a very small cast meaning the film can view these characters in a huge amount of depth. The amount of locations in the weekend was very small. This also is another reason why the film is first person because it doesn’t have to spend so much time with stablishing shots. I conclude that the film Pride has a documentary feel to it because it is a period drama and the director wanted to include everything to do with the event. This is also down to the cinematography. The cinematography in Pride was directed by Tat Radcliffe he also did the cinematography for the film 71. The cinematography was on sticks and had no hand held camera. The weekend cinematography was directed by Urszula Pontikos. She also directed the cinematography in lilting. It is hand held in The weekend therefore giving it a first person feel.

Stacey Dooley vs Reggie Yates

Reggie Yates documentary Race Riots USA was presented by Reggie Yates, Directed by Ruhi Hamid and produced by kandise Abiola. Ruhi Hamid has also directed other documentaries such as extreme south Africa with reggie yates and extreme Russia with reggie yates. This documentary covered how the death of Micheal brown, the unmarked black teenager killed by a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri, reggie yates examines the position on African Americans in the U-S society. The documentary gave a very first person feel to the documentary. You were with reggie yates all the time and the voice over was the from the voice of reggie yates. This gave a very educational feel to the documentary. This could be because the race now is such a big crisis now that it has to be viewed not in a entertainment way but in a factual and informative way.

The documentary covered how African american people in not only Ferguson are being primarily picked on. This documentary showed how the law system viewed African american people in negative ways. The lawyer which Reggie yates went to go visit stated how there are now laws in america for the way you walk and dress. For example there was a law against how people shouldn't sag their trousers or if they were to be seen walking in a group and looked as though they were wearing stereotypical gang clothing they could be charged. The law is aimed primarily at the stereotypes of a young black rappers. These young black rappers ideolised by other young black African Americans and personnel identity and friendship groups are created. This then gives the police something to charge and therefore collect money. The lawyer says how the american policing system is used for profit and how it uses these new laws to collect money.

Reggie Yates had a interview with a law enforcement officer and was told that an officer, when pulling over a car for anything, has to prepared to kill everyone in the car if needs must. Some other police trainees were saying how they need to walk up to the car as though they are going to be prepared for a gun fight if needs must. This i believe is wrong because if you walk up to the car thinking that the person in the car could attack you at any point you're going to act aggressive. I believe that the system is wrong. The laws are used to gain profit which is so wrong in so many ways. the law should be there to protect and serve not gain money. The government are creating laws around young black African American rap and using that to charge African American people because they know they are going to be following these rappers. All of this is used to create money.

Stacey Dooley's documentary Sex trafficking In Cambodia was presented by Stacey Dooley, directed and produced by Fiona Lloyd Davis. The documentary was about Stacey Dooley explores the issue of under aged sex in Cambodia. Fiona Lloyd Davis is a documentary maker who focuses on human rights issues in conflicts zones. So this documentary is right up her street. This documentary had very third person feel to it and felt as though it was entertainment purposes and we were watching how this normal every day girl reacts to these shocking stories. This is done through the the voice over being done by a separate person. I didn't feel as though i was with Stacey in Cambodia. This is also due to the different locations they all traveled to. In Race Riots it was all based Ferguson. This is based all over a country which is a much larger area. Therefore by having a national scale it didn't feel as though i was with Stacey but more as though I was watching her do this from home.

The documentary showed these girls in a very recessive position. All of the girls were at the mercy of these pimps and men. It painted a picture that it was men doing all of the dirty work. For example men are pimps and they are the ones who have sex with under aged girls. But in fact in some of the stories its actually the aunt who sends the child off or sometimes the mother who sells the child off money. If it wasn't for the mother in the first place the Girls wouldn't be in the hands of these horrible men. So the women are just as bad as the men. On the other hand there has been cases where the mother has said no or the family member has said no to selling the girls and the pimps have came and kidnapped the girls. Now very little people in Britain can relate to this meaning that the audience they are being alienated and distanced from the subject matter meaning that it has a lack of personnel identity. This then makes the subject more interesting and shocking to audience because they have not seen or experienced anything like it.

The reason why the young girls are selling their bodies to these pimps and men is because there is a huge amount of money which comes with it. One of the girls in the one of the interviews says how they were going to be payed $700 for having sex with a man. That is worth 2 months wages and to girls who's families are very poor and have debts to pay, this offer is very enticing. But the girl says how after having sex with the man she doesn't even get payed and she is beaten up for asking for the rest of the money.
Mediterranea
I went to go see the film Mediterranea on Friday the 16th of October. The film is directed by Jonas Carpignano. It was made in 2015. The genre of the film is drama and adventure. it is a drama because it heavily relies on realistic character development and story line development. It's adventure because the men travel to places they have never been before and discover new things. The themes of this film are friendship, racism, immigration and money. it has friendship because the story line follows the character Abas and his friend Ayiva. Both of the characters have strong bond between each other. It includes racism when they two men travel into the small town in Italy. The white people don’t like the Immigrants taking their jobs. They specifically don’t like the black skinned people taking their jobs. It includes immigration throughout the film because the two mean are moving from country to country and includes money because the older man Abas is always looking for stuff to sell and provide for his friend. The film is about two men who take a dangerous trip to Africa and then Africa to start a better life but then face hostility and violence in this shocking look at life and death struggle of refugees.

The cinematography through the film was handheld. The cinematography was directed by Wyatt Garfield. I believe this was to create the illusion to the audience that they are with the characters in the film. It gives the film a rougher edge  and a more realistic feel to the film. This put the audience in a first person view and in some scenes this would scare the audience such as the scene where the group of people are still in Africa and are just about to climb over the top of hill and the terrorists come over the hill and hinder the group from progressing to the border. The shakiness from the camera puts the audience in a recessive position.
The sound was directed by Nicolas Bekker. There is no non diegetic soundtrack in the whole film. It’s a bit like the film the weekend where they only use the noises around the characters to create a realistic interpretation. Just like the scene in weekend in Russells house where Glen is eating the chocolate bar. They emphasize the noise of the chocolate bar wrapper. This is to make the audience feel as though they are in the scene with them. They do the very same in Mediterranean. In most of the desserts scenes they use the non diegetic noise of wind, the sand hitting the clothing and their feet digging in to the ground. They all emphasize these noises to make it seem more realistic. What I mean by emphasizing the noises is that they make them very noticeable so they increase the volume of the sound effects.

The performance of the two men displayed that they were both very close to each other. The proximity of the two brothers were very throughout the film was very close. This then showed that they were not afraid of getting close this is because they have grown up together. There is a film where a similar relationship between to males happen. Which is The Selfish Giant. The two boys Arbor and Swifty weren't afraid to get close not in a sexual way but in a friend way. They would hit each other and wrestle. Another example is the film My brother the devil. the two boys Rashid and Mo have a close relationship and this is displayed through the older brother Rashid touching his brothers Mo's head. In summary the performance of the men are very similar to these two other films.

The mes en scene in the film tells and shows the audience that they are not in a poor estate wherever they go. Throughout the film you never see any huge high rise buildings. Therefore they never go in to a big city. The meaning of this is to show and tell how these two boys never make it "big" or can never make it "big". Another form of mes scene which shows how they are poor and struggling is there clothes and setting where they sleep. Their shelter is a small little shack made out of different pieces of metal and scrap. Therefore telling the audience that they are very low class and have little money. There clothing is rough and has been torn in multiple areas. meaning that the characters have no money to buy a new jumper so they keep the one they have at the moment. In conclusion this shows us that the area the characters are in is poor and they themselves are very low class and are very poor.

MAN SHOUTS ALLA AKBAB AS HE STABS A MED WAY VICTIM

A man shouted “Allahu Akbar” after stabbing a teenager in the back in picturesque gardens in Canterbury. Alban Hetemi, 20, uttered the words – which mean “God is great” in Arabic – after plunging the weapon into Sayed Hossani. The incident happened in Westgate Gardens in April as the 19-year-old victim was sitting on a park bench with friends Samir Mohammed and Kate Kennett.
As women and children watched, Albanian drug dealer Hetemi walked up to the group at 5.45pm, grabbed Ms Kennett’s hair and pulled her head aside so he could attack rival Mr Hossani. After chasing and stabbing him, the victim said Hetemi shouted “Allahu Akbar” before telling him: “I don’t want to see you in Canterbury!” Prosecutor Paul Valder told Canterbury Crown Court: “Mr Hossani fled for his life with the defendant in pursuit, still holding the combat knife and shouting for him to stop.
Mr Hossani managed to get as far as St Peter’s Street before collapsing and the defendant returned to his car, which had been parked in Pound Lane and drove away. The victim, who lives in Medway, called the emergency services and was taken to the William Harvey Hospital, where surgeons treated a back wound and removed two litres of blood from one of his lungs. Mr Valder added that the knife - which had been bought in the city minutes earlier - had penetrated the chest cavity and punctured a lung, with the injuries requiring emergency surgery.
Police searching for the knifeman viewed CCTV and spotted him getting into a VW Golf and the following morning the vehicle was stopped in Clement Close, Canterbury . Officers found a black lock knife in the vehicle which had been bought from Golding Surplus store in Canterbury for £15. Mr Valder said: “When officers found the weapon, the defendant said words to the effect of: ‘Do you think I am the world’s dumbest criminal? Do you think that was the knife from the stabbing?’
In fact it was the defendants knife because it had blood stains on it. police also found three bags of herbal cannabis in his car. I believe that this is a terrible event. i think that tabloids will use the quote Alla Akbab in their title of the article. The news article i found it off was Britain First face book page. Britains first is a jingoistic party which thrives to preserve britains accentral ethnic and cultural heritage. "We oppose the colonisation of our homeland through immigration and support the maintenance of the indigenous British people as the demographic majority within our own homeland" this is from their face book page. There title for this article was "ANOTHER ANGLOPHOBIC ATTACK, THIS TIME IN KENT..." They are using "another" to show people that it has happened already. They are using the hypodermic needle theory and wanting people to believe that it will  happen again unless they support them and their cause.

New Zealand helicopter crash
Police in New Zealand have named four British tourists killed in a helicopter crash on the Fox Glacier. They are Andrew Virco, 50, and Katharine Walker, 51, from Cambridge, and Nigel and Helen Charlton, aged 66 and 70, from Hampshire. The aircraft crashed in a crevasse on the glacier, on New Zealand's South Island, on Saturday morning. The crash site is on the island's remote west coast, which is a popular tourist area. Also among the dead are Sovannmony Leang, 27, and Josephine Gibson, 29, both from New South Wales, Australia, and pilot Mitchell Gameren, 28, from Queenstown, New Zealand.
Rebecca Walker, 22, said her mother, Katharine, had a "special spin on life". "She worked hard and she played hard. She affected so many people in so many good ways," she told the BBC. She added that the couple's "big adventure" to New Zealand was to celebrate turning 50. Colleagues of Ms Walker, who was head of radiotherapy at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, are said to be "devastated" by her death. Ms Walker was a "much respected member of staff" who had worked at Addenbrooke's for 23 years, Cambridge University Hospitals said. The family of grandparents Mr and Mrs Charlton, who lived in the village of Dunbridge, near Romsey, said they were "deeply saddened""They were very adventurous when it came to travel and this holiday was to be their last big adventure together," their statement said.
The bodies of three of the victims have now been recovered from the crash site and taken to a temporary mortuary facility nearby for formal identification, which New Zealand Police said may take a number of days. The recovery operation has been halted for the day after weather conditions at Fox Glacier deteriorated. Rescue teams in helicopters found no sign of survivors when they reached the crash site, rescue co-ordinators said. The cause of the crash is being investigated.

The Weekend

The week end is a film directed by Andrew Haigh. The genre is coming of age, drama and romance. it is a romance because the story revolves around two main protagonists who fall deeply in love with each other. it is coming of age because the main protagonist is on a self discovery journey and wants to express him self publicly as gay. Its a drama because the story relies heavily on realistic character and story development. The theme of the film are love, sexuality, relationships and acceptance. love is shown through out the scenes where the two main protagonists are having sex. Relationships theme is displayed through the the scenes where the two protagonists are together talking and deciding whether to be boyfriends. sexuality is a theme because the story line follows a gay man and gives the audience a feeling what it is like to be a gay man for a weekend. Acceptance is the final theme. all through out the film the main protagonist is scared about coming out being gay and how the sub protagonist is teaching him to be open about his sexuality. The film in summary is about a man named Russel who meets a man named Glen at a bar, has a one night stand with him and then spends the rest of the weekend with him and how they start to become inseparable.

The micro feature sound I believe plays a big part in creating the illusion that the audience is in the moment with the characters. Through out the film there is no non diegetic sound track All through the film it is simply the noise which is going on around the characters. I'm not saying that all the noises which are going on around the characters are diegetic I'm saying that its all very common sounds you would here on a average day. For example when Russel, the main protagonist, is cycling down to his job in the morning. The noise of birds churpping, the sound the bike wheels riding on the ground and the noise of the car in front of him. This lack of sound track use is very minamilistic and the director is using it to create the illusion for the audience as though they are with characters in the film. The moment where there is a sound track. just before the final sex scene the song TC and Honey bear comes on. This song has a very slow rhythm and an acoustic guitar. i think the reason why Andrew Haigh wanted a song in this scene is because its there final night before glen has to depart and may be the final time they can have sex together. Therefore this soundtrack creates a romantic and sexy atmosphere. Even the sound track sounds like it is being played out a stereo system or a record player. therefore putting the audience as though they are in the same room as the characters.

The Performance I believe was one of the most crucial micro features in the film. You can tell that the the two protagonists have a very close relationship by the proxemics between them two though out the film.  Within the second bar scene for glens leaving party Russel and Glen arnt scared to get very close to each other. I believe this to show that they have a sexual tension between them two and arn't scared to let it out in public. But Russel's physical interactions with glen are much less then glen's physical interactions with Russel. This to high light how Russel isn't as open about his sexuality because hes nervous what other people's reactions would be. In the scene where Russel answers Glen about how their night was Russel is nervous and feels very awkward. He is reluctant to speak and the rhythm of his speech is slow. Glen's ,on the other hand , speech rhythm is fast paced and he doesn't hesitate to ask Russel any question. The meaning of this is show that Glen is much more open about his sexuality and wants to spread the news about gay sex relationships and Russel is much more enclosed about his sexuality and scared about coming about publicly.

weekly news
A man has been charged with murdering a teenager who was stabbed to death outside a friend's 16th birthday party.

Calvin Tudor, 21, is accused of killing Che Labastida-Wellington, 17, in Kenton, north-west London. Che, of Harrow, was knifed in the chest in an alley in Belvedere Way on Sunday. Mr Tudor, of Kelly Close, Neasden, north-west London, is due before Barkingside Magistrates' Court later. He is also charged with the attempted murder of a 16-year-old boy. The 16-year-old was treated in hospital after being stabbed. Police said a fight had broken out before the stabbings, after a group of youths had tried to gain entry to the party. Che, an invited guest, was pronounced dead at about 01:30 , an hour after he was stabbed. Police are still questioning a 19-year-old man who was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of murder. Two boys aged 15 and 16 who were arrested on suspicion of murder have been bailed until mid-December. A third, aged 14, who was being held on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon, has been bailed to a date in early January.

I believe that this is a horrible act of crime and the person who ever killed Che should have a life sentence. The boy in questioning should be given a fair trial as should everyone who is in a difficult situation in court. The article was published by the BBC. The group of boys shouldn’t have tried to gain entry into the party in the first place.

Corbyn accuses defence chief of political bias in nuclear row

Jeremy Corbyn has accused the chief of the defence staff of political bias after he criticised the Labour leader's anti-nuclear stance.
Gen Sir Nicholas Houghton told the BBC's Andrew Marr that refusing to launch nuclear weapons would "seriously undermine" Britain's "deterrent". And he said he would be worried if such a view "translated into power".
Mr Corbyn called on the defence secretary to "take action" against Sir Nicholas over his comments. In a statement, the Labour leader said: "It is a matter of serious concern that the chief of the defence staff has today intervened directly in issues of political dispute. "It is essential in a democracy that the military remains politically neutral at all times. "By publicly taking sides in current political arguments, Sir Nicholas Houghton has clearly breached that constitutional principle. Accordingly, I am writing to the defence secretary to ask him to take action to ensure that the neutrality of the armed forces is upheld." Mr Corbyn, a leading member of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, sparked a row with his shadow cabinet at his party's annual conference when he revealed that would never press the "nuclear button" - and he has since praised Scottish Labour's rejection of Trident.
I am undecided about the whole decision to do with stopping the nuclear weapons. I do agree with Cobyn saying that if we cancel the nuclear weapons it could save a huge amount of money and also go towards the anti nuclear stance. But I also agree with the chief of defence when he says about how we need to stay protected at all times.
